I’m late to the game on Elle King.
The other day I heard America’s Sweetheart on The Highway on SiriusXM. I had no idea who Elle King was, but my wife was sitting next to me and she was like:
That’s Elle King!
So that sparked my interest right away. Here is the song I heard.
America’s Sweetheart – Elle King
The lyrical content is a little like Miranda Lambert, Brandy Clark and Kacey Musgraves. But it’s vocal is entirely unique to Elle King.
The thing I love most about this song is that it’s not really like anything you’ll hear on country radio right now. But it’s really catchy and it has this raw nature to it.
This girl is not afraid of who she is. She embraces the things that make her unique. She may not fit into the portrait of how some people think a perfect America’s Sweetheart should be, but she’s going to be who she is and she’s going to love the people that love her for that.
That’s an inspiring lyric for a country song. It’s kind of been rising with the artists I mentioned above and Elle King seems to fit right in that vein, but it also seems like she’s looking to put her own stamp on things.
Country music has been thirsting for more females. And more and more are starting to find success with all different kinds of music. And I think there is room for Elle King to be included in that new group.
What do you think of the song?
