Dixie Chicks
Bio
In 1998, the Dixie Chicks came from nowhere to become the biggest act in country music. Two sisters, Martie and Emily had cut their teeth for years as expert musicians. The two had worked in the country music scene for years releasing albums as backup players in the Dixie Chicks. It wasn’t until ’98 that the two found singer Natalie that the group broke out with their album Wide Open Spaces.
Martie and Emily played instruments including the fiddle and the banjo to perfection and those skills combined with Natalie’s unique vocals made for an instant intrigue with country music fans. Wide Open Spaces five hit singles including three that reached the top of the charts. The album went diamond as did their second release Fly.
The Chicks were riding high with huge tours, huge albums sales, and major awards. Their third major album Home was selling big on the charts and the single Travelin’ Soldier was at the top of the charts. Then in 2003, a misunderstood quote from Natalie ignited controversy and the band fell from grace in the eyes of some of their fans. The group continued to fight hard; almost needed to start over as artists. They released the critically acclaimed so-called rock album Taking The Long Way and the album sold well and won the Grammy for Album of the Year.
The trio continues to work together although Natalie has taken time away from recording as she cares for her family. Emily divorced her country artist husband after the release of Taking The Long Way and she and her sister have since started recording as a duo.
The Dixie Chicks are talented and relentless in their pursuit to create great music. Expect much more from these girls in the future.
