Texas Country is definitely more traditional than anything you’ll get in Nashville today. And I’m okay with the country coming out of Nashville. It’s catchy, fun and there is still some really good traditional country songs coming out these days.
But sometimes I like to get some gritty, traditional-sounding country and you can always count on the Texas artist including this song from Rich O’Toole. Check it out and see what you think.
Back To Back – Rich O’Toole
The song seems to be about a troubled relationship. It’s hard to tell if it’s a couple that’s been together for a while or only for a while. Maybe it’s a relationship that has been getting serious, but the guy has been spending time with another woman. But he’s realizing that he’s ready to commit.
Or it’s a cheating song. The guy has messed up. Whatever his reasons he knows that things can’t go on like they are now. They’re laying next to each other in bed, but there is no love. Or the love is strained. They lay back to back and it’s more painful than anything.
Maybe you’ve been in a situation like this. If you have you know that it can be really painful. You’re not sure how to make the situation better. You love the person. Should you stay? Can it be fixed? Or is it just best to see reality for what it is and look to move on.
I don’t know if there is a right answer.
Anytime a song makes you really think through life this way you know you’ve got something good. And it’s got a little catchy melody to it. Not in a dancing kind of way, but in the kind of way that gets stuck in your head. This is a good one.
