Here is a new country song that is after my heart. I haven’t listened to Matt Hundley before, but now I’m thinking that I need to check out more of his music.
He’s got a new song out and it’s a story about trying to make a life in Nashville while trying to make the kind of music that you really want to make. I’m sure it’s a struggle for many artists. The labels know what will sell. The artists need to find a good compromise.
This is a good one.
Back To Country – Matt Hundley
My favorite line in the song is the one about how the label and producer want him to make a few changes to the lyrics because the target demographic will love it. But Matt doesn’t like the line and he wouldn’t be proud to share that line if his mom was listening. So he’s going to have to back out of that kind of music.
I have a feeling that if Alan Jackson hears this one that he’s going to like it. George Jones always told Alan to keep it country and Alan always was able to find the right balance of commercialism and traditional country. I hope that Matt can do the same. I really like this style and it’s lacking a little in today’s Nashville. But things always kind of go back and forth so maybe someday soon we’ll swing back to the traditional sound.
What do you think of this one? Are you a fan of the more traditional sound?
