Billy Currington is one of the oddballs in country music. He doesn’t really fit in with any of the main groups in the genre. He’s not a hat wearing cowboy. He’s not really a muscle bro type either that is popular on the charts right now.
Billy just kind of does his own thing and that’s been working well for him for more than a decade. It’s Wednesday here on CML and that means we’re looking at a great album track that wasn’t released as a single.
Here is one from Billy’s last album, We Are Tonight that you may have heard before.
Banana Pancakes – Billy Currington
Sometimes I have my head in the mud when it comes to music especially if you ask my wife. She knows that I just about only listen to country music. I was listening to this one last year and she just rolled her eyes. I had no idea it was a Jack Johnson song, but I don’t really listen to JJ all that often.
I like Billy’s version and I like Jack’s version after I heard it. I think it was a great play by Billy to cover the song for a couple reasons. First, the song is obviously already a hit with fans. And it fits his style perfectly. Billy has that laid back vibe for the most part and he can pull this song off perfectly.
The song is fun and catchy and it’s completely different from anything going on in country music right now.
We’re on to Billy’s new upcoming album with his new single so this likely won’t be a single for Billy in the future, but I thought it was worth sharing nonetheless.
