Country music is waiting for some strong female acts to come in and really take over. The charts are dominated by men right now and it’s been that way for a few years.
One of the new artists I’ve been hearing about it Mickey Guyton. I’m kind of ashamed of myself for not getting this review up earlier. In fact, this is the first time I’ve heard this song and I’m really regretting it.
This is one of the best country songs I’ve heard in a long time.
Better Than You Left Me – Mickey Guyton
Great song with classic country lyrics. The women was left by a man. She was pretty down on things at that time, but now she’s gotten better. She’s gotten so better in fact that she might be better than she’s ever been. And now the guy wants to come back into her life again and she’s moved on.
But what really hits me as a listener is the power in the voice. And this is a real live country song. It kind of has different elements of different eras in country music. I can hear influences of Patsy, Loretta, Lorrie, Trisha and Carrie in this song. That spans five decades of country music and it’s all rolled up in this song.
I really like it. I would love to hear your thoughts on it in the comments.
I’m going to listen to it one more time.
