Brent Cobb has been one of those bubbling under people in country music for a few years. He’s been a sought after songwriter from some of the biggest artists in Nashville. He’s co-written songs for Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, David Nail and others.
Brent has also been working on his own style and sound. He’s been looking for that big opportunity to kind of bring his music to the mainstream country audience and it looks like this fall is when it will happen.
Here is what appears to be the first single off an album due out later this season.
Black Crow – Brent Cobb
The first thing that kind of popped into my head with this song was Sons Of Anarchy. It has that kind of feel and of course the idea of a crow was etched throughout that TV series. It kind of has a feel of the people; the working class people out there just looking for their spot in life.
This is definitely a unique style for country music right now. It’s more of that outlaw and blues feel that’s had its place in country music in the past, but not really for a long time.
The good news on this one, though, is that a few artists have had success with similar styles. I’m thinking of Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson among others. It’s something that has an audience in the mainstream country world and this could work for Brent Cobb. I kind of like.
I’m curious to see what you think of it.
