The new EP features six new songs from the country star including his latest top five hit All About Tonight. Other songs on the album include the ballad Who Are You When I’m Not Looking and the duet with fiance Miranda Lambert Draggin’ The River. The latter is a rocking little number that sees Blake and Miranda having a little fun down by the river.
Blake has been a bit of a trendsetter with his latest six song EP releases. The first was Hillbilly Bone released earlier this spring and it was a big success with sales of a few hundred thousand copies in only a few months. Now just a few months later the next set is out and it appears just as likely to sell well.
Blake’s latest is available today. For only $4.99 be sure to pick up a copy.
All About Tonight – Blake Shelton
Blake recently told Kix Brooks on American Country Countdown that it’s even more difficult to pick just six songs for a new set. Blake explained that it’s tough enough to choose only 10 or 12 for a traditional long length album let alone half that much. But Blake said that his goal and the goal of his record company was to make sure they put out an album that was affordable for country fans and the label and Blake have certainly accomplished that. All About Tonight is available for only $4.99.
There are great songs on All About Tonight. There has never been any doubt that Blake can sing a good country song. There is a ballad or two here along with a mid-tempo, a pair of rockin’ tunes, and the tongue-in-cheek title track.
It’s a solid set that satisfies for the price. All About Tonight is another fine set from the country star. With twelve new songs already out in 2010 there is no shortage of great music from Blake Shelton and that’s a great thing for country music.
Blake is one of country’s best singers and performers today and more music from him is always a good thing.
Six Song EP Albums
This is the second six song EP Blake Shelton has released this year. Under the new strategy Blake will be able to release 3 singles each year along with 18 new tracks that his fans can purchase. And at the price of $4.99 the label can gross about $12 to $15 per copy sold depending on what the mark-up is on the copy.
It’s a neat little way to break up the release of new music. Rather than releasing a full album with 3 or 4 singles every 1 or 2 the record company is able to put out more songs per year with the same number of singles. It’s a bit of a risk. If one of the singles isn’t successful the album could flounder, but that is true for any album.
The entire six pack album concept seems a bit gimmicky.
Songs are still readily available for free as fans share music and stream the music live on sites like the artists’ MySpace page, YouTube, and other sharing sites.
It’s only a matter of time before the current state of recorded music and recorded companies are no longer needed. Artists will move on to more relationships with companies like Live Nation that provide artists with promotion to increase the size of their live shows. Live Nation promotes singles and the artists’ music that is available for free in an attempt to get fans to come out to live shows. Companies like Live Nation then charge a set fee for the marketing efforts or take a bit of the percentage of the concert sales.
