Here’s a band that’s been active in country music for over 40 years. And I was thinking about it just now and I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned them on CML before. So for that I apologize, but we’re going to feature them right now. And the man they’re singing about is another I haven’t mentioned before. I’ve slacking.
Bob Wills Is Still The King – Asleep At The Wheel
Each week I try to see what the latest chart movements are on the country charts. I mainly look at the airplay chart and the albums charts. The interesting thing about the country album charts is that you’ll find some surprises on there. You’ll find acts that really get no airplay on country radio, but fans still love the acts enough to buy a bunch of albums.
This past week Asleep At The Wheel made the top 20 with their new tribute album to Bob Wills. It’s about that Texas country swing music that has really been popular or at least somewhat popular for a long time. For a guy like me it was George Strait that kind of introduced that sound.
And I’ve heard of Asleep At The Wheel over the years, but never really knew their music that well. But I like this tribute song to Bob Wills. It’s catchy and they bring on a few other country artists to sing along on the track.
You just don’t get good music like this on the radio anymore, but it’s good to see that plenty of people are still interested in spending money on a good country record.
