The BoDeans are big time here in Wisconsin.
They were the champions of the state in the mid ’90s when their song Closer to Free became a huge hit. The band never found the same kind of success on the charts, but they have continued touring and recording.
Now, it appears they are looking for something a little different yet true to their roots. Here is their new song and video, All The World, which happens to be appearing on CMT.
All The World – The BoDeans
This song has a great melody. I’m not quite sure what the lyrics are about, but it’s catchy and that’s an important element – in my assessment – of a good song.
All The World moves along at a slow to medium pace. It does have elements of country music. I can see why this song and video will get some play on CMT. It’s kind of surprising to see these guys up on the screen, though. But it’s not the first time a ’90s pop star or band has been on CMT. The most recent example is Darius Rucker. I don’t think The BoDeans are heading for that kind of success, but most didn’t expect Darius to find the success he has in the last five years.
It’s always interesting to see bands and acts survive for long periods. The music industry seems like a tough business to be in. One minute you can be red hot, but if you don’t have the singles and the hits you can soon find yourself wondering if you were ever really good enough in the first place.
It seems like The BoDeans are both happy and comfortable with who they are. Ane perhaps they are about to stumble on some new success in the later stages of their career.
I hope so.
