It seems that as artists get further along in their career they start to think bigger with their music. Brad Paisley’s music has certainly been bigger the last few years. He’s taking on some big topics. Now he’s just singing about the home that he loves, but it’s the music that gets really big. Check out this one and see what you think.
Southern Comfort Zone – Brad Paisley
This was a highly anticipated record. Brad has been riding high on big singles for a few years, but he kind of faded away last year even after the huge hit with Remind Me. Country music is a weird business because you can slip away from the mainstream really quick and while Brad’s singles have been good the last few years they really haven’t had the buzz around them like they did during his mega run about five years ago.
But come on. This is Brad Paisley and he’s the man. I’m a huge fan. He’s always got a melody up his sleeve and this song certainly has a great melody. But again he just goes crazy with the bigness of the record. The idea of taking a song about home and turning it into something that has this big musical arrangement is ambitious, but I think Paisley pulls it off well. It’s a catchy song and I’m sure it will get tons of play.
I’m just a guy up in Wisconsin, but I think Brad needs to get back to the simple songs that just showcase his songwriter. It’s where he’s always been showcased best.
What do you think of the new song?
Are you proud to sing this one if you live in the South?
