Carrie Underwood has been quiet so far in 2011.
Well, to be fair she’s been about as quiet as a superstar can be. She just recently topped the charts with Brad Paisley for Remind Me. She’s been in the news (in a good way) for her marriage. She was in a great movie.
So ‘quiet’ probably isn’t the right word, but Carrie fans are still waiting on that first new single from her next album. We don’t know how much longer we’ll have to wait, but in the meantime there is a new Carrie song out there.
It’s a duet of the classic [easyazon-link asin=”B005KNVDGC”]It Had To Be You[/easyazon-link] with legend Tony Bennett…
It Had To Be You – Carrie Underwood & Tony Bennett
The Story of the Song
First, a little personal story.
Back when I was in junior high or early high school I had two real interests in music – country and American standards. One day I was sitting at home doing some homework on the computer. My folks were walking around the house taking care of a few things. After some time passed my Mom stopped in the room and said, “Are you listening to Frank Sinatra?”
I admit, it was probably a shock for my folks to hear a 16 year old or something kid listening to the classic American songs from the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s. I couldn’t help it. The music was interesting. It had style. It had class. It was different from what other kids my age were listening to and I was always looking for some way to be different in those days (and still today).
So when I heard there was going to be another duets album from legend Tony Bennett I was excited. I was even more excited to learn that country stars Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill would be included on the album.
Carrie and Tony teamed up on the American classic [easyazon-link asin=”B005KNVDGC”]It Had To Be You[/easyazon-link]. The song has always been one of my favorites and the favorite song of many others from every generation. The song is beautiful. It’s a style that isn’t around much anymore. And since Carrie can sing anything it’s great to hear her voice on the song.
[easyazon-link asin=”B005KNVDGC”]It Had To Be You[/easyazon-link] is a great love song. It’s passionate. You can feel the emotions in the voices of Tony and Carrie. I’m actually surprised how good Tony sounds on the record. And I really like how Carrie kind of toned back her volume and effort on the song. It’s beautiful. There’s a real connection between the two on the song. It feels like love. It makes you want to fall in love with someone and play this song for them. It makes you want to grab your lover and dance in the middle of the living room.
Carrie’s Duets and Professional Ventures
As I said earlier, it’s been a relatively quiet year for Carrie. Mostly everyone has been waiting for her next move on the solo front. She’s been busy with her personal life and working with a few other legends. And I’m sure she’s been busy writing and prepping her next album.
I still think there’s a shot we’ll have new music by the end of the year. I thought late fall when I wrote about Carrie’s 2011 back in January. I still think that’s likely, but we’re running out of time.
There is still time. Carrie’s singles rise fast so she could release a song in October and have it just be hitting the top five as her album hits stores sometime around shopping season in late November.
As time goes by the anticipation only builds.
