It was a make or break year in 2011 for Chris Young.
The rising country star continued his success by releasing a great follow-up album to his breakthrough, The Man I Want To Be. The year got started with Chris releasing the single Tomorrow, which promptly climbed the charts to #1.
Since that time Chris has seen Neon become one of the best albums of the year and the second single You is just about to crack the top five on the charts and will probably become his fifth #1 in a row.
It was a great year by anyone’s standards and there’s no reason to think 2012 will be any different.
Chris Young in 2012
The year is setting up well for Chris Young. He’s riding into 2012 with a single at the top of the charts. I’ve already declared that Neon is probably my favorite album of the year. There are at least 3 or 4 more songs on the record that could become singles and that’s a good thing for Chris as he heads into 2012 looking to further establish that he’s a star in country music.
Neon is loaded with potential singles. I’m not sure the direction the record label will take with the next single from the record. If I had to guess I’d say the label will go with She’s Got This Thing About Her. It’s another ballad and the ballads are what seem to have the crossover appeal. It would be the next big step for Chris Young to crossover a bit into the pop world even though he’s one of the most traditional artist in country today.
If it were my choice these would be my top songs for singles:
- When She’s On
- I Can Take It From Here
- She’s Got This Thing About Her
There is also a wildcard song on the record that for some reason could be a single. Save Water, Drink Beer is nothing special, but I’m sure it’s great live and sometimes those labels go the safe route with songs. This could easily be a top ten hit. It’s just not my favorite.
What do you think? What song should be the next single?
I think we’ll see at least one more and probably two more singles from Neon in 2012.
It’s hard to peg Nashville and the schedule of new music sometimes. There are artists like Toby Keith that release albums every 12 to 18 months. Other artists take 4 or 5 years between albums (see: Steve Holy).
For the most part I think artists release new albums every 18 to 24 months. It seems pretty standard and if Chris Young is on the regular schedule we could see something released in the later part of the year. I think there is at least a good chance of a new single out later in the fall of 2012.
We’ll see how many singles are released off Neon. I think there will be another one for sure, but I’m not sure if there will be a fourth. If so, then look for a new single at the very end of 2012 leading into a new album for early 2013.
And because I made this prediction I’m sure we’ll see five singles from Neon and my prediction will be completely wrong.
Chris is hitting the road with Miranda Lambert in 2012.
Now that is a must-see show. Miranda is rocking and Chris will have the perfect show to get things started. Chris is reaching the point now where he can carry on for a good 90+ minutes when he needs to. I remember seeing him a couple summers ago. He put on a great show and at that time he was only working off two hit singles. Now he’s got a growing stable of songs and with the Neon album there are some great tracks to play during the live show. I’ll have to check things out again in 2012.
Chris Young is entering into big time ground heading into 2012. He’s on pace for five straight #1 singles, which is pretty significant. Before you know it people are going to realize that Chris is one of the superstars in country music today. He could be lining up for major awards or at least consideration for the awards like Male Artist of the Year.
Chris’ long time fans won’t be surprised, of course. They realize Chris has always had what it takes to be huge in country music. It’s just a matter of time before everyone comes around and realizes.
And that might be sooner rather than later.
Here’s to a great 2012 in the Chris Young camp.
