Last night’s CMT Music Awards was entertaining, fun, and full of big stars and great songs. Kid Rock hosted a great show and even though I felt he slipped up toward the end he really pulled it out with the closing speech. He brings great creativity and some outlaw edge to country music. He is a lot like his friend and mentor Hank Williams Jr.
It was great to see country’s greatest artists at the show. There are some great artists that seem to be hitting their stride as superstars. It’s great to watch.
Here is who I picked to win and how I did: Who Won The CMT Music Awards
CMT Music Video Awards Highlights
Here are my thoughts on the evening.
Great to see Martina McBride tweeting live from the show. She’s a fun lady. A great talent. Martina is a legend in country music.
Shaun Silva won the Director of the year. He is very deserving. His videos have a unique style and the film he shoots definitely adds something special to each song.
The artists gave their usual gifts and some extras to charity this year. A great gesture.
On the mind of all in attendance at the show was the recent flooding in the Nashville area. Very impacting situation for all that live in the area.
The opening performance was great. Kid Rock singing Cowboy with some great folks. Martina McBride, Trace Adkins, Hank Jr., Randy Houser, and Kellie Pickler. Jamey Johnson added a little Dukes of Hazzard Theme. I loved it.
Brooks & Dunn won the Duo Video award. Not expected, but interesting to see that Ronnie wasn’t there. These guys are great. I hope they still get together. They make an amazing creative duo.
A little fun from Reba and Keenan Thompson.
Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins take home an award for Hillbilly Bone. It was a huge hit. Tons of guys loved the song.
Jamey Johnson’s new song Macon is catchy. A cool groovy song. It’s got an old feel and sound to it. Not surprising given Johnson’s influences. I love Little Big Town on the background vocals.
Wow was LeAnn Rimes Swingin’!
And there was John Anderson. Love it.
People love Toby Keith. For good reason. He’s one of a kind.
Great violin intro for the Zac Brown Band. I really like Free, but i was kind of hoping for Can’t You See with Kid Rock. But the lights in the crowd were pretty cool.
The sound started out questionable, but Carrie Underwood delivered. Undo It can’t be an easy song to sing every night.
No doubt about it – Keith Urban and John Mayer can flat out play the guitar.
I really think we’ll be hearing a lot from Easton Corbin in the future. He sang for about 15 seconds, but there is something about him that is awesome. Very George Strait like.
Carrie Underwood wins the big one. Well deserved. Her video was amazing and I met some of her fans on Twitter. There is no doubt in my mind why she won the award now – dedicated fans.
