Meghan Linsey put out a new EP a couple months ago. I caught her performance on Country Now on YouTube and saw this new song.
I thought it sounded really good so we’re going to include it here on the blog.
Counterfeit – Meghan Linsey
Meghan was one half of the country duo Steel Magnolias. Then she reemerged as a star on Season 8 of The Voice. That was one of the seasons I tuned in and I really thought she would have a chance to win. But the one thing with that show is they haven’t had to provide their stars with lasting success like Carrie Underwood on Idol or even Chris Young and Miranda Lambert on Nashville Star.
But the cool thing about Meghan on that show was that she wanted to break new ground with her style. She always had a little soul in her style and brought that to country. Now she’s going a little more into new territory. It’s pretty cool.
This song seems to be about a girl that sees this guy. She’s wondering what he’s thinking and is confident in herself. She’s real to herself and she’s not sure if the boy can handle that.
There are some powerful vocals on this one. I think Meghan really nails the vocals as she usually does. The production is a little old school pop and lounge with some catchy little things that should make it something people sing along with.
I like the song. Is it country in the traditional sense? Probably not, but I think it’s cool.
What do you think?
