Country Love Songs – Part 4
20) Me and You – Kenny Chesney
Kenny Chesney had himself a nice career before he blew up into the biggest star in music during the ’00s. Way back in 1996 Kenny had a number one hit with the love song Me and You. The song is sweet and passionate. It’s a dance at your high school prom song and Kenny sings it like no one else could. Kenny can really sing any song he wants to. Me and You is a great love song that will set the mood for the night by letting the love of your life know that it’s just the two of you for tonight. Nothing else matters. Be sure to include this one on your country love song playlist.
19) I Wouldn’t Have Missed It For The World – Ronnie Milsap
Sometimes even when it’s over you look back and know that you wouldn’t change the experiences you shared with someone for anything in the world. Ronnie Milsap looked at the good times before a breakup with the song I Wouldn’t Have Missed It For The World. The song is pure ’80s country and nobody could have a hit like Ronnie back in the ’70s and ’80s. Ronnie was a one of a kind and this song is perhaps one of his best. It’s a great way to look back at the good times in life and enjoy the time you have with someone you love even if it’s only for a short time.
18) I Still Believe In You – Vince Gill
Vince Gill is an amazing country artist. He can sing like an angel. His voice is like no other. On top of that he can also play guitar better than most and he can write songs that compete with just about any other song on the charts at any point in history. When Vince Gill released I Still Believe In You it took him to new levels of popularity and superstardom. The song is beautiful. It’s simply a gorgeous country song that sets the mood for an evening of passion. Tell the one you love that you still believe in them and you want to be with them forever and you’ll have yourself a night of passion to remember.
17) Meant To Be – Sammy Kershaw
Sammy Kershaw fell into the role of the modern day George Jones in the ’90s. Sammy had a big run of hits and that included the love song Meant To Be. The song is about finding someone over and over again throughout a period of time. You finally realize that it can’t just be coincidence and that something must be at work that keeps bringing you and this other person together. There has to be something there and it seems like love is meant to be. It’s one of Sammy’s best songs. It took him away from the tongue-in-cheek songs that define his career and showed his audience that he can be a sentimental guy as well and he can be really good at it.
16) I Will Always Love You – Dolly Parton
To pop fans the song I Will Always Love You will probably always belong to the wonderful Whitney Houston, but to country fans the song will forever belong to the writer and original performer Dolly Parton. I Will Always Love You is a great country love song. It’s about knowing that no matter what you dedicate your love to someone forever. Dolly wrote the song about a business breakup, but the song means so much more to so many people. It’s a breakup song. It’s a passionate love song about wanting someone so bad you can’t stand it. Everybody knows this song and it’s great for declaring your love on a night of romance.
15) It’s Your Love – Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw fell in love sometime around 1996. The two seemed to have that astronomical pull that put them together to form one of the greatest couples of all time. They seem to have it all: good looks, talent, and the best personalities. Shortly after the two married they released the love song duet It’s Your Love. The tune is pure passion, love and emotion. This was the song where Tim and Faith confessed their love for each other to the public. It’s love in the purest form in a country song. There is a reason the song shot straight to number one on the country charts and it’s because so many people wanted to feel what Faith and Tim were feeling.
14) Face to Face – Alabama
There really aren’t many lyrics to Alabama’s Face To Face, but the song’s instrumentation, feeling, emotion, and raw love energy are what make it a great country love song. The lyrics are simple as Randy Owen tells the love of his life to be close to him…face to face. The song is about getting close with the one you love and letting yourselves fall into each other completely. What could be more romantic than feeling that close to someone? It’s a surefire hit for romance tonight.
13) I Cross My Heart – George Strait
At the end of 1992 George Strait stepped out from behind his mic and took his place in front of the movie camera. Pure Country was an unlikely hit movie that saw big numbers in the box office. The soundtrack was just as big and it was lead by the classic country love song I Cross My Heart. If you’ve seen the end of the movie you know the scene when George gets on stage and sings the song to his lady. George has the ability to make you feel like you’re the only one in the room when he’s singing too. His music is all about passion and he covers so many emotions including love with his songs. I Cross My Heart is one of the greatest country love songs of all time.
12) From Here To Eternity – Michael Peterson
Starting in 1997 Michael Peterson stepped out from behind his songwriting pen and had himself a strong run of hits. His debut album went gold on the success of 3 major country hit singles led by the number one From Here To Eternity. The song is about dedicating your entire life to someone for all of time. That’s a big commitment, but Michael captured a feeling many have when they fall so much in love with someone that they’re willing to do anything to be with them. From Here To Eternity remains a popular wedding song even today and it’s because of the great way Michael sings the song and for the meaning behind the lyrics.
11) The Chair – George Strait
The saying goes that only George Strait can sing a song about a chair and have a huge country hit. In 1985 George released The Chair and it shot up the charts to #1. It’s a song about picking up a woman in a bar by saying that she took your chair. Cheesy? Yes. Sappy? Yes. A great love song? Of course. George Strait is the best artist of the last 30 years and the great thing is he’s still churning out great love songs to this day and he doesn’t appear like he ever wants to slow down. The Chair is one of the best love songs in George’s repertoire and that’s really saying something.
