Craig Campbell reached the top 15 on the country charts with his recent first single. Now he’s looking for hit number two on the charts and he’s looking for a whole lot more attention this time around.

Sometimes it takes a little controversy and an attention getter of a song to really make your own luck.

Some kind of song right?

There has been plenty of country songs in history with questionable lyrics, but Fish by Craig Campbell is a playful one. If you don’t think too much about it and let yourself go you’ll have plenty of fun. Just don’t sing it in front of your grandma because you may slip up on the lyrics and say a certain inappropriate four letter word.

Fish is about two young lovers. They like to head out to the lake for a little alone time. They tell everybody they’re just going fishing, but you know what really happens when two young people get some alone time together. Sparks fly and there is a whole lot more than fishing going on.

The melody, the music, and Craig’s vocals make this song work. It could come across as raunchy and classless, but it works. I think the song walked a fine line, but it succeeds with generating the right amount of surprise while still being accessible.

Craig is trying to make his mark in the country world. That’s not an easy task. It’s hard for new artists to get the attention of the country audience. We are difficult when it comes to letting new singers into our homes when we turn on the radio. It usually takes a special song that makes us turn our heads to accept a new artist.

I think Fish is going to be that kind of song for Craig. It may not crack the top ten, but I guarantee more people will know the name Craig Campbell by the time this song runs its course at radio.
