We like to write about independent artists her on CML from time to time. We know you want to hear about the big stars out there like Taylor, Gary, Carrie, Toby and the others, but the independent artists are putting out some really great music too.
This track comes from music veteran David Reo. He reached out to me asking if I would listen to his music. I did and thought it was worthy of a review here on CML. I know it’s not that great of an accomplishment to get a review here on CML, but every little bit helps.
Here is the first song from his various playlists including his website – David Reo.
Hot Dog – David Reo
I’m a big fan of upbeat songs. I’ve listend to a lot of independent artists over the years and they always seem to focus on the ballads when they’re starting out. It seems the better way to break out and find success is with something simple and catchy.
Something catchy is exactly what Hot Dog is. I really like it.
The song is about a woman that has left. The man in the song remains upbeat about the whole thing knows that he’ll be out there trying to get her back.
This song could easily be slowed down and turn into a tear-in-your-beer ballad, but I like that it’s upbeat. The melody is great. It’s really catchy and you feel like dancing around the house when you hear it.
I think this style might qualify as Texas Swing or maybe Rockabilly. It’s definitely got some rock elements and a little oldies, but I think it fits nicely in the country genre as well.
