This is my first introduction to Big City Brian Wright and his brand of country music. From the first note of his new song, Down In Dixie, it’s evident that I’m going to like his style. It’s got some old school country with maybe just a hit of rock and roll.
And that mix is just fine with me. I think you’re going to like this one if you like traditional rocking country music.
Down In Dixie – Big City Brian Wright
When I first heard this one it kind of reminded me of hanging out in a small town tavern here in my home state of Wisconsin. You can walk into those places on a weekend night and you’re never quite sure what you’ll get. Things kind of start out slow and easy and then someone turns on a song like this one on the jukebox and people start dancing and moving around and things get going.
There’s definitely a little Hank Williams Jr. in this one. And it reminds me also of some of the rocking music that came out in the ’90s like Wade Hayes and David Lee Murphy. Those were two of my favorite artists.
I don’t know what the plan of attack is for this single and the album. I hope they do well because it sounds like Big City Brian Wright is bringing a little tradition and fun back into country music. I think there’s still a place in country for this kind of music.
