Justin Timberlake could have been the biggest story of the recent CMA Awards.
His performance with Chris Stapleton was pretty epic and one of the surprising things for country fans was that Justin has some country chops.
He’s from Tennessee so that really makes sense. The guy has country roots even though he’s made his name in the pop world.
I don’t know if this song will be released and promoted at country radio, but I think it would fit in pretty well.
Drink You Away – Justin Timberlake
It’s a song about drinking away the sorrow felt after losing someone.
Does it get more country than that?
Actually the song takes on the hook that even with all the alcohol in the world there still wouldn’t be enough to drink away the pain that the guy feels about losing his girl. That’s pretty heavy and kind of turns the traditional country song on the subject on its head a bit.
You obviously get the catchiness of the pop sound in this song. That’s where Justin came from after all, but it’s nothing crazier than what’s on country radio today. Country fans appreciate catchy songs just as much as pop fans.
And country artist David Fanning tried his hand with this song. His version did chart in the country world, but didn’t make it too far.
Certainly Timberlake would have the clout to climb the charts. I think it would be a cool story. The song is a few years old now, but it was never a single…why not put it out at country radio and see what happens?
