This one is sure to have people arguing.
Is Do It Like Bubba a country song?
Probably not in the traditional sense. But country music and rap have been blending the last couple years. In fact, I think the country rap movement is one of the biggest trends in country for 2012.
Check this one out and then we’ll discuss.
Do It Like Bubba – Dustin Tavella
What do you think of that?
I’ll admit that I was skeptical when the song started. The first minute caught me off guard. I don’t really recall ever hearing something like Do It Like Bubba before.
But you know what?
By the end of the songs I was nodding my head along with the beat. I was kind of caught up in it just like the real cowboys in the video. They were nodding their heads and so was I. There was just something catchy about the beat and it captured my attention for a couple minutes. I don’t know if I’d listen to this song over and over again, but for a city white guy rapping I have to give Dustin some credit. He captured my attention and I don’t hate the song.
Now, I’m sure this is the kind of song that will have people arguing over. You’ll probably either think it’s alright or really hate it. There will be some folks that will nod along when it comes on CMT and others that will say CMT has gone crazy.
I think it’s good to shake things up once in a while. Some of the greatest artist in history have been the ones to change things. I’m not saying Dustin Tavella will be somebody that changes things in country music, but there is definitely a movement of country rap going on.
I’m not sure how people will respond to the rap stuff in country. Traditionalists will scream, but a few more fans will bring in the fans on the fringe.
What do you think?
Can Dustin do it like Bubba?
