You’ve seen the kind.
There are lots of so called homeboys out there. Pants hanging by their knees. Ball caps twisted off to the side. They also have the fake confidence and the fake attitude. There an’t nothing authentic about those homeboys.
Eric Church calls them out in his aptly titled Homeboy – the new single for 2011.
In this case the story is told from Eric’s point of view and the Homeboy in the song is the brother. The sibling seems to have gone astray in life. He’s caught up with the wrong crew. It’s tattoos, fake gold, and plenty of bad attitude. Eric pleads for his brother to come back home and make things right with his mom and dad. It left off on a bad note when he went the wrong way.
Eric has been doing a good job of keeping things consistent with his music, but he’s always finding unique topics and points of view to sing about. I love this new song Homeboy and I think Eric’s fans are really excited about it as well. Being a brother myself I don’t have to look at my brother in the same way. He’s not a homeboy, but I think it’s important to remember that we’re different people. We won’d do things always the same way.
As Eric sings about in the song though there is always room for a little country in your life. It’s the good hard working nature of country boys and girls that could use a little catching on with more and more folks.
It looks like another solid hit for Eric Church. He’s still going strong and finding his way in this country game.
