It’s been two years since I proclaimed Thomas Rhett a “Future Country Star”.
It took a little longer than I thought, but TR now has a number one country song and he’s followed it up with a big debut album.
The good news is the album debuted at #2 on the charts. TR even beat out the new release from Toby Keith. The only bad news is that TR lost out on the top spot thanks to The Robertsons of Duck Dynasty fame. Those guys are everywhere these days.
Now comes another challenge for TR. He has to followup his smash single with another one. I think he made a good choice.
Check it out.
Get Me Some Of That – Thomas Rhett
This is a great song. It’s incredibly catchy. It’s a great followup to It Goes Like This. The song is about a guy that’s really falling for this girl. Everything she does is driving him wild.
You can hear the influence of modern country music on this one. It fits right in with the things Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan are doing right now. It’s progressive. It’s catchy and people are going to love it.
It’s interesting that Thomas Rhett started gaining notice as a songwriter before he finally broke out as a performer, but his last single was a co-write by his dad, Rhett Akins. And this one is another one of his dad’s songs. Rhett the senior wrote this one with Cole Swindell who’s climbing the charts right now with Chillin’ It.
Thomas Rhett still has some good tracks that he wrote on the album. I’m sure we’ll still get one or two more releases before it’s over.
Until then we’ll certainly enjoy this one.
I guess if you want a great hit song there’s no better person to go to today than Rhett Akins. And if he’s your dad, even better.
What are your thoughts?
Does TR have another number one on his hands?
Chart Estimate: #3
