This one is just a really good modern country song.
Jackie Lee has been looking for a breakout hit for a little while. Sometimes it just takes some time I guess to find that song that will really connect with country fans.
I’ve been a fan of Jackie’s. He’s had two really good songs featured here on CML. I’ve really liked both of them and that’s the case with this third song as well. It’s really good. Catchy. Meaningful. It’s about something that many people experience in life.
Maybe this will be that breakout hit.
Getting Over You – Jackie Lee
When you think about the situation in this song it just kind of makes you sad. We have two people that have broken up. We don’t know exactly what went on, but it sounds like they were both of the realization that things needed to end, but they’re both having a hard time with it.
The guy is the narrator in the song. He’s been hearing that the girl has been having a hard time with things. Maybe he’s seen some of that. It doesn’t make him feel good. He’s not gloating or thinking I told you so or anything like that.
The truth is that he’s really feeling the same thing. The hook in the song is that if she feels like getting over him was hard then she should see it from his perspective and difficult it’s been for him to get over her.
At first I wasn’t sure how to take that, but maybe it’s a compliment in a way. The guy is not bitter. He’s not happy that she’s sad. He’s just working through a really tough situation because he cared for her.
Great song.
