Some of the biggest changes in music have come when outsiders make their way into a genre. I guess it probably happens in pop music more than other genres like country. Fans aren’t always accepting of things that are way out there and different, but sometimes a little change is a good thing and people love it.
The song we’re looking at today is from a country and rock band from Norway. I think that’s pretty cool. I have to admit it’s partly cool because some of my ancestors are from Norway. We have a big Norwegian population in this part of Wisconsin.
But anyway…let’s check out their new single.
Girl Next Door – Vanity
This is a cool song. It definitely has a different sound than what you’ll hear on country radio right now. And you don’t really hear things like this on the edges of country at the moment either.
But there is something interesting that pulls you in about this song. It is a mix of that new folk movement in pop music and you can hear a little bit that sounds European.
The lyrical content or the story are certainly things that country fans can relate to. The song seems to be about someone that left home perhaps to pursue dreams and now realizes that the grass wasn’t greener on the other side. They’re heading back home to see the one they love and the place where they belong.
And it’s all wrapped up in a good melody. The more I listen the more I like this one. It’s different, but it’s good different.
I don’t know if it’ll be a hit, but it’s something I like listening to.
What do you think?
