We move on down the line…
Good Country Songs Part 3
30) Watermelon Crawl – Tracy Byrd
There is no reason to drive after you’ve had a few. You just gotta do the Watermelon Crawl. In the early and mid ’90s there was a throwback to the line dancing side of country. Tracy Byrd had his big hit with Watermelon Crawl. The song is super catchy and is still popular in honky tonks and clubs all over the country. The song is about partying out in the country at the summer fairs and festivals. Country folk like to get down and have a good time and doing the Watermelon Crawl is all part of the fun.
29) Down On The Farm – Tim McGraw
Tim McGraw followed up his smash #1 hit Don’t Take The Girl with another smash hit Down On The Farm. The song is rocking and all about having a good country time. There are great images in the song. There are farmer’s daughters, beet fields, Jeeps, and all the rest of life’s good things that make living enjoyable. Folks really know how to party down on a farm and there really is no better place to be than a farm field on a Friday night after the local football game gets over. Good times. Good cheer. And plenty of lifelong memories.
28) We Danced Anyway – Deana Carter
Deana Carter raced to the top of the country world with her debut single Strawberry Wine in late 1996. As the year turned into 1997 she was able to see her second single We Danced Anyway do exactly the same. The song was co-written by Matraca Berg who had also written Strawberry Wine. Danced became another instant hit for country’s girl next door. The song had a feeling of letting go of all life’s cares and simply enjoying life with someone you love. It’s the ultimate dance as if know one is looking song. It’s fun. It’s catchy and it’s a good country song.
27) Live Until I Die – Clay Walker
After his debut single went #1 on the charts, Clay Walker set right out to repeat the feat with his second tune Live Until I Die. Walker wrote the song himself and the tune became the ultimate anthem for living life to the fullest for as long as you can. Sometimes we all get caught up in trying to make more money while putting in more hours and not sitting back to enjoy life. Walker had is right when he said it might be best to simply live until we die.
26) All Summer Long – Kid Rock
Over the summer of 2008 rocker Kid Rock had an unlikely top five country hit with the mashed up tune All Summer Long. Borrowing from Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves in London, Rock created a song about the memories most of us have of summer love, partying with friends, and just having a good time before all the worry and work set in. The best part of the song is the catchy melody and the story of a boy turning into a man. Even if the song isn’t 100% original it’s a good country song that put a smile on the faces of many fans.
25) Don’t Think I Can’t Love You – Jake Owen
Jake Owen‘s career to this point has been interesting. He’s found success with a handful of singles. It’s taken those singles longer than usual to climb the charts, but Jake has built a strong following of fans that love everything he’s doing. In 2008 Jake released what is his biggest song to date Don’t Think I Can’t Love You. The track is groovy, fun and sexy. The song is about all the material things that may come with a relationship but in the end there is only the love and that’s the only thing that matters. It’s a catchy song with a great melody that makes you smile.
24) On A Good Night – Wade Hayes
Wade Hayes followed up his strong debut album with the lead track to his second set. The song was On A Good Night and it was all about partying and having a good time in the country. Wade’s voice was pure country and he sang songs for the good country women and guys in the audience. On A Good Night has a fun groove and makes you want to start kicking your boots on the barn floor while enjoying a good party with friends.
23) Too Much Fun – Daryle Singletary
It wasn’t his highest charting single, but Too Much Fun is the most remembered Daryle Singletary song. The tune asks the question “How can you have too much fun? Too much fun? Not possible.” It’s a great line isn’t it? How is it possible to enjoy life too much? The song has a great melody that is fun to sing along with on a Friday night when you’re out driving around with friends and looking for a good time. This song is the ultimate anthem for weekends of hanging out and having a good time with life.
22) Old Enough To Know Better – Wade Hayes
In 1994, Wade Hayes could have been just another young country guy with a hat, but his debut single turned out to be great and it shot all the way to the top of the charts. Old Enough To Know Better is a fun song about knowing your old enough to probably shy away from having all the fun you do when you’re young, but the beauty of it is you’re still too young to care what others think. I don’t know if some of us every grow out of the stage of wanting to head out and have a good time with good friends. You know you’re probably too old to do those things, but by goodness you’re still too young to care.
21) Sounds So Good – Ashton Shepherd
In 2008 Ashton Shepherd released her second single Sounds So Good. The song became her second single to nearly reach the top twenty on the country charts. Ashton may have only been just 21 when her first music was released but everybody she worked with on her debut album thought she had a world of talent. She’s from Alabama and her down home roots come through in her voice. She’s got one of the best country voices in the business today and when she sings about ice in the cooler slushing around and good country music on the radio there is reason to turn it up.
