One of my all time favorite country bands is Shenandoah. I guess I was kind of raised on their music along with the other great music of the late ’80s and all through the ’90s.
The thing was that my parents never really listened to country music. I kind of discovered it on my own and loved all the music of that era.
I’m not sure how I missed it, but Shenandoah released a new album earlier this year. I knew that Marty Raybon was back on board, but they put out a record last spring. Let’s check out the title track.
Good News Travels Fast – Shenandoah
The sound is what hits me first on this one. It sounds like the classic Shenandoah sound. They always seemed to bring a different sound to their music. Maybe it’s a little bluegrass influence? A little gospel thrown in?
That’s what the album is here. It’s gospel, but obviously country and gospel have always been loving partners. So much is intertwined when it comes to music.
To me this is a song about celebration. It’s spiritual, but could also be about a number of different things. There’s a little room for interpretation in the story in the song with the basic underlying theme being that when good things happen people usually find out.
I would just add that good news does travel fast if you’re looking for it. You have to be open to hearing good news.
It’s great to hear Shenandoah back on record. This is a great one.
