Granger Smith is a really cool story in country music. He had been out doing his own thing for a really long time. Something like 10, 15 or even about 20 years. Just releasing his own music. Going out on tour and building a fanbase.
Definitely not easy to live that life, but he was resilient. He would probably still be doing his own thing and doing well, but he decided to partner with Wheelhouse, a branch of Broken Bow, which has become a major player in Nashville.
The result has been two big hits at country radio.
And it looks like Granger has another one queued up for this summer.
Happens Like That – Granger Smith
Granger has really perfected his style. This one is really catchy. He’s shown with his last couple singles that he knows how to find a good melody.
This one is another one with a really cool little groove. Not really uptempo all the way through. More like a mid tempo that just kind of rolls along.
He’s a little Chris Young. A little Billy Currington. A little bit of a few artists, but when you hear his voice you definitely know that’s it’s a Granger Smith song.
You gotta think he’s going to have a long career.
Anyway, this is a love song. It’s something you would think would be pretty straight ahead, but it has a good hook in the lyric and the style works really well for today’s country radio.
They have something figured out over there at Broken Bow.
I like this one.
