The reason I love listening to independent artists is because they bring a rawness to country music and I think you miss that in the slick world of studio recording. Here is a new artist, Harold Allen. He recorded his latest record as a live album and the first song on the record really stood out to me as a great country record that was both traditional and different. Visit his website and check it out.

The song starts out as something you might expect to hear on a Big & Rich record. Then the song gets going and you realize it sounds a little different, but it’s still a traditional country sound.
My favorite kind of country music is traditional. I love Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley and George Strait. Harold reminds me of those traditional guys out there. I would totally go see this guy if he was playing up here in Wisconsin. Listening to his live record proves just how good he is in the live show and it was probably a really smart move to record things live instead of in the studio.
Listening to the independent artists is important. You never know when one of them will break out and make it big in the mainstream. It’s important to listen to this music and support these guys. Sometimes there is very little difference between the Jason Aldeans and the Harold Allens out there. I think this is a great record.
