I told you that we would have another Ryan Hurd song before the year was over. This guy seems to get better with each new release. I’m still not sure of the strategy that Sony is using with breaking him into the mainstream. This is the fourth song they’ve released this year from him. Maybe they’re just kind of testing the waters to see what will work.
All I know is that this latest release may be the best of the bunch. I hope this one gets some real promotion behind it heading into 2017, but this one sounds like a hit.
Hold You Back – Ryan Hurd
This song has a lot going for it. Ryan seems to have a finger on the pulse of young country fans. The sound is something fresh and new in country music. The melodies are pretty modern as well and Ryan’s voice has a little rock edge that fits in really well with the style of country right now. He just seems to be right on the cutting edge.
I’ve listened to the song a few times. I don’t if I have the lyrics nailed down entirely. I think it’s about a situation where a guy and a girl have had something going in the past. They’ve been kind of struggling with moving on. It sounds like the girl has another guy that she’s seeing or something like that.
But the song takes place in a situation where the two main characters have spent the night together. It’s a little bit of a fall back into the feelings they’ve had in the past.
Now maybe they can finally set each other free, but it doesn’t sound like that will be the case…
