I might be in love with this song.
Last week I saw on the country albums chart that Margo Price had a new album out. It’s pretty impressive for a new artist without radio play or anything like that to have an album debut with a few thousand in sales. It’s impressive.
So I had to check out her music and I’m really liking it. Check this one out and see what you think.
Hurtin’ (On The Bottle) – Margo Price
So it turns out I’m way behind on the Margo Price story. She’s on Jack White’s Third Man Records. And she seems to fit in with her own style, which is something of really old style country music. When you hear Alan Jackson, and previously George Jones, talking about Keeping It Country they can include Margo Price in the conversation.
This is just straight up country music in sound and lyric. You have a woman that seems to be going through some challenging times in life and the result is that she’s putting a hurtin’ on the bottle. A guy has been treating her wrong and she’s going to deal with it the best way she can.
It’s amazing to me that a new artist could take on a song like this and really nail it. The song is nothing we really haven’t heard before in country, but this one seems fresh. It seems like it would have been a hit in 1975, but I think it’s already been a hit on places like Spotify here in 2016.
I like it. What are your thoughts?
