We’ve had John Mayer featured on our little country blog before. I had kind of forgotten about that. He’s been one of the king’s of modern soft rock and pop for over a decade. Kind of that singer-songwriter type from the ’70s.
But that era had heavy influence on later eras in country music. And this latest single from John is getting some attention from country fans.
And for good reason.
Let’s see what he’s got for us.
In The Blood – John Mayer
It certainly has a sound like a modern country song. But it’s really a sound that kind of fits in with many genres. Certainly with some types of pop music. Soft rock. Alt rock a little. The first thing I thought of was a few songs that Kenny Chesney has done in the past. That kind of rock thing that bleeds into country a little bit.
The lyrics seem to paint something pretty introspective. A person that’s looking at their origins. They’re wondering if they’re going to be like their parents and to what degree. Will they get just the good qualities or will they get all the qualities including the ones that maybe they don’t want to have.
The song is called In The Blood which would seem to imply that many things in life are genetic. We have no control. But more and more we’re starting to learn that genes can lead to things like looks, but so much more is learned from observing others.
We observe much from our parents and those around us. Maybe it seems genetic, but maybe it’s more mimicry without us even knowing.
Anyway… I like this song from John Mayer. He’s still one of the best at what he does.
