Back in the ’00s there was this band that I used to see on CMT all the time. I would watch CMT every morning before driving off to school and Cross Canadian Ragweed would get all kinds of airplay. I don’t think they ever had a top 40 hit on the radio charts. They came close, but never really had a breakthrough.
The band was together for a long time, but then went their separate ways. But the lead singer, Cody Canada, is back with a new band, The Departed. Here is their new single.
Inbetweener – Cody Canada And The Departed
You’re not going to hear anything like this on the mainstream country charts. I don’t know if the mainstream country fan is ready to hear something like this. It’s catchy, but has that dark sound to it. The song kind of combines elements of heavy rock with a little bit of country.
I’m not entirely sure what the song is about. I think it might be about Cody’s career and how he’s kind of been in between the life of a mainstream act and an independent act for his career. Or maybe it’s about life and how others out there really can’t find a way to fit in.
If that’s the case I think people will really attach themselves to this song. I don’t think this comparison is apt in all phases, but it’s kind of like the grunge push 25 years ago when people wanted something to call their own because they couldn’t fit in.
Either way it’s a cool song from a cool artist and band.
