The One That Got Away by Jake Owen

The man is on fire.

Any Jake Owen fans out there?

In my experience with CML, Jake Owen has some of the most passionate fans. I’ll admit that early on in his career I wasn’t sold, but now I can’t deny his success. His last few songs have been stellar. He’s always been one to write his own stuff, but recently he’s added a few others to the mix and his career is really taking off. Good for him.

I don’t know yet what the next single will be, but one song I’m hoping for is The One That Got Away. It’s one of my favorites off his latest record.

The One That Got Away – Jake Owen

It’s gotta be the melody of The One That Got Away that gets me. I love it. I could listen to it over and over. In fact, that’s just what I’ve been doing and that’s why you’re reading this post.

Jake is a laid back, cool kind of guy. Back a few years ago I wasn’t sure what kind of artist he would be. Well, he’s turning out to be on the edge of stardom. His latest record – his third – has had two huge hits and I’m betting the third will be a big hit on the charts as well. I’m thinking this song would work really well over the summer of 2012, but the label might have different plans. They get paid the big bucks after all.

I just think there is a story for everyone in The One That Got Away. We’ve all had that summer love back when we were young. We were just loving life and spending time with friends. We met that special someone and then the summer was over and we all moved on. It wasn’t until later when we realized that they were the one that got away.

Or maybe you were one of the lucky ones that didn’t let them get away. That happens to a few out there and the rest just have to think about the one that left.

There really is no bad choice for a third single on Jake’s latest record. I’m betting on this one.

What do you think?

Chart Estimate: #3

CML Points: 84/100
