There is no artist like Jamey Johnson in country music right now. The man does his own thing and his label and team support him fully. I’m sure there were some that said he couldn’t release a tribute album. It’s just not something that typically does well in sales and popularity. But Jamey doesn’t really care about that. It seems he wanted to pay tribute to one of his favorite songwriters, Hank Cochran. It’s where the passion was and it comes across in the songs.
The first single from the record is the title track. Here is Living For A Song by Jamey Johnson with a special appearance by Willie Nelson.
Living For A Song – Jamey Johnson
This is my favorite kind of country song. I love the old style from the ’50s and ’60s. The latter was the era of Hank Cochran and he continued to write those same kinds of songs throughout his life into the ’80s with tons of classics.
Jamey and Willie nail this track. It’s stripped down in the production and that’s just how it should be. They’re both living life for a song and that’s what matters most to them. It’s not about all the other BS that goes along with the world. These are two people that put the quality of the song first and foremost in everything they do.
It’s a great song for the way Jamey is going about his career. He’s doing what he wants. He puts out the songs he cares about most and he’s finding that there are quite a few country fans out there that feel exactly the same way.
Great accomplishment with this track Jamey and great job on the entire record.
