Jason Aldean is today’s rock star.
In the ’70s and ’80s and even in the ’90s there were rock stars and rock bands that ruled the music charts. The artists ventured a little into different genres like heavy metal, hair metal, pop-rock, grunge, and even country when Garth Brooks took his career to places never before seen.
As things moved forward pop stars kind of took over. Boy bands ruled for awhile and rap took over in a big way starting in the mid ’90s and continuing today. It’s hard to find those rock stars in the music world today – the kind of rockers that would fill up stadiums and have top hits on the rock and pop charts. Rock albums just aren’t the bestselling genre of music anymore.
So who is today’s rock star?
Jason Aldean is the closest thing we have to a modern day rock star…musically at least.
He may not be messing up hotel rooms, throwing huge parties on his tour bus, or tearing up sets on popular music video shows, but Aldean has taken some ’80s rock influence and messed it with some country roots to form his own breed of music that fans are loving.
Jason Aldean Rock Star
My Kinda Party – Jason Aldean
Jason is a rocker at heart that likes to bring the in-your-face electric guitar and powerful drums. His songs scream and howl with a furry that only rock fans are familiar with.
It’s amazing to think Jason is occasionally described as someone with a plain voice with a habit of picking cliche songs. I don’t disagree with that summary. I just think it proves even more that being a rock star is about more than talent. It’s about having the attitude and determination to stick it to everybody that says you couldn’t do it and doing something you love more than anything – rocking.
Not only is Jason Aldean a superstar, he’s a rock star.
Some things that make Jason Aldean a rock star:
- Power chords
- Arena anthems
- Power ballads (see: Big Green Tractor)
- Big stage show
- Electric guitars
Some things that don’t make Jason Aldean a rock star:
- Doesn’t Write His Songs
- Doesn’t wreck hotel rooms
There really has only been minor differences between genres of music. Most music is about love and life’s struggles and enjoyments. Willie Nelson has always said that there are only two kinds of music – good and bad.
Does it really matter how we define it?
Jason’s traded in the long hair for a cowboy hat. He didn’t go for the makeup and instead trims his goatee. He left the tight leather pants at home and put on his short sleeve plaid shirt and hit the ground with a rocking fire that makes him today’s breed of rock star.
What are your thoughts on Jason Aldean and his music?
Is he rock?
Is he country?
Is it Ok that he might be a little bit of both?
