I always think it’s weird.
I think it’s weird when artists write songs about songs. Think of Songs About Rain or Old Alabama. Now we have Jerrod Niemann singing about drinking songs.
But you know what…this one works.

One More Drinkin’ Song – Jerrod Niemann
It’s good, right?
The man with the difficult name to spell (hard on us writers) seems to have another big hit on his hands. When we really get down to the details of what makes a good song it truly is about about the melody. In the instance of One More Drinkin’ Song I’d guess the groovy, summery sort of melody came first and when the guys (or gals) couldn’t come up with the lyrics they just started singing about drinkin’ songs.
And it all came together to form this clever little track that will have you singing along by the first chorus.
Up to this point Jerrod Niemann has been on quite a ride. Just last year he found his first official single release racing up the charts as fans requested it over and over. Eventually that song reached the top spot on the charts. Next Jerrod came out with a completely different kind of song and that too became a bit top five hit.
Now it’s the summer of 2011 and Jerrod seems to have the right kind of song for summer fun. One More Drinkin’ Song has the Jimmy Buffett/Zac Brown kind of feel that’s been big for quite a few years now. People love to sit at the local bar sitting out by the tiki torches in the summertime. There is usually a jukebox or radio somewhere around and I can see people singing along to the melody of One More Drinkin’ Song all night long.
I think it sounds like another hit for Jerrod and this might be the one to push his debut album all the way to gold status.
What do you think?
