I keep typing the name Jonny Fritz wrong. I want to throw that H in there, but we’ll try to do it right. I should know the feeling because my name has been misspelled and mispronounced my entire life.
Anyway, we’re going to do a series here in the next couple days from CMT Edge. The first in the series is from an artist I had never heard of before: Jonny Fritz.
Hush My Babe – Jonny Fritz
So it turns out the song is from a performance last year (or is it two years ago now?). Anyway, it’s an a capella version of a classic Christmas hymn. Since we’re still getting through the Christmas season I thought we could include it. During the middle of the track you get to listen to Jonny talk about the song and his interpretation of it.
First of all you fully realize that Jonny can sing. It’s gotta be incredibly difficult to sing without instrumentation backing you up. You’re all alone up there on stage and not to mention the cameras looking right at you. You know that Jonny is aware that people will watch this video in the future and it’s on him to perform.
He really puts on a performance that makes you think about being in church on Christmas Eve. It’s a great performance of a classic little hymn-type track. It’s certainly from the edge of country and really just a good Christmas song you don’t hear all that often.
Great performance from CMT Edge.
