I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. I wasn’t sure if Dee Jay Silver was a DJ style musician with turntables and the whole deal. When I think of that I think of hip hop and dance music.
And there’s nothing with that. There are some great songs in those genres. So maybe that kind of mashup and mix could work in the country world. Artists have been stretching the limits of country recently.
Let’s check this one out. I kind of like what I heard the first time.
Just Got Paid – Dee Jay Silver
The story on this one for me is the groove and the melody. I thought maybe it would be a bit more in-your-face and fast, but it’s more of a mid-tempo groove with some really catchy melodies. It’s something that you’ll kind of nod your head to as the song goes along.
The theme of the lyrics and the story in the song is getting paid at the end of the week and getting ready for the weekend. We’ve obviously had songs about this topic before, but there’s always new ways that you can kind of pin the same themes to create something fresh that people will like.
For comparison sake I would say this kind of falls in line a little bit with Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker and even what Sam Hunt has been doing a little bit. There’s a spot in country music for this style.
I kind of dig it. What do you think about this one?
