Everybody’s a winner.
Back in the late ’80s and early ’90s Kathy Mattea was a big time winner on the country charts. The beautiful and talented singer notched numerous hits on the charts including multiple number ones. She pulled in five straight gold studio albums with a platinum collection of greatest hits thrown in for good measure.
By 1994 Kathy was riding high and looking for yet another hit. She found it with today’s Flashback Friday song – Walking Away A Winner.
I remember hearing this song on the bus ride to school each day. Back then I was only a kid and when you’re a kid you are really drawn to the pure melodic nature of songs. WWalking Away A Winner has that catchy, sing along quality that captures the attention of listeners – young and old.
Only later did I realize the powerful lyrics and story behind the catchy vocals and music. Walking Away A Winner is about a woman walking away from a bad relationship. She thought she was in love with a guy, but that was not the case. He seemed to be a taker in the relationship and things were only looking to be a bad situation.
The woman overcame everything with the relationship, though, and moved on. She left. She kept her pride and now she’s ready to walk away a winner and into the next part of her life.
Sometimes it takes a real wakeup call to realize you’re in a bad situation. No matter what the circumstances are you need to realize you can walk away a winner from any bad situation. You don’t have to stay and suffer.
This is a great country song and I’m happy to feature it here on Flashback Friday.
