It sounds like ’80s country.
There is a little Steve Wariner mixed with a little Restless Heart in this music. Keith Stegall is the singer. He is best known for his work with Clay Walker and Alan Jackson – among many others – during the last two plus decades.
Before that time Keith had a few hits of his own.
Listen to Pretty Lady from 1985…
Pretty Lady – Keith Stegall
This song is growing on me. I really like it. The song definitely fits the feel of the ’80s in country music. There is plenty of gloss on the track. There are background singers. Keith is singing high and sounds like he’s enjoying the lyrics.
The interesting thing about Pretty Lady is I can’t really picture Clay Walker or Alan Jackson singing the song. It’s a little before their time. The song is about a guy that’s in love with a woman. Well, he seems to be fascinated with her at least. The true attraction of the song is the melody. The great thing about the ’80s in country music is the melodies. There were plenty of catchy songs back then. I still love hearing songs I haven’t heard before. I’m surprised I haven’t heard more Keith Stegall on the classic country stations.
I always recognized the name Keith Stegall on those Alan Jackson and Clay Walker records. Those are two of my favorite artists. Keith continues working with some of the top acts even today like the Zac Brown Band. Keith has had major influence on the way country music has taken shape over the last 20 years.
Many producers started out as singers. Keith had quite a few singles back during his run as a singer on the charts. And it may even surprise a few people to know he had some top twenty hits. And the songs were good.
What a good Flashback Friday.
