Kenny Chesney got back on track with Come Over. I felt like the first single with Tim McGraw was a little off base, but Kenny really found his direction for this last record. There is a longing and searching in the lyrics of a few of the songs including Come Over. Now Kenny keeps that emotion going with his next single El Cerrito Place. It’s also awesome that he brought back Grace Potter for the harmonies. It’s amazing.
El Cerrito Place – Kenny Chesney
The first thing that stands out about this single is the opening music. For the last few years Kenny has been putting out songs like this. They have a down feeling like there is a guy that’s searching for answers. He’s looking for a woman. He’s looking for a purpose in life.
If you think about Kenny and how his life must be there has to be some aching there, but I’m sure Kenny would say not to feel sorry for him because he lives a life like no other. But I’m sure that in spite of all the success Kenny just thinks he would like someone to share it all with. He gets to do it all by himself and probably with a few fair weather friends, but for true love and companionship he’s got nothing.
You can hear Grace Potter in the background. It reminds you a little bit of You And Tequila with the way it sounds, but this is entirely its own song. I really like it. Kenny has stumbled on a new formula here at this point in his career. He’s found a sound that has this old rock edge from the ’70s and ’80s yet it’s still country. It’s certainly not traditional country, but I feel like Kenny is pushing the limits and the most important thing is that people are really liking it.
Kenny is at the top of his game again.
