Mix together a little Richard Marx with Bob Seger and you’ll get the latest single from Kenny Chesney.
The new single is Somewhere With You. It’s the second single from Kenny’s Hemingway’s Whiskeyalbum which recently debuted at the top of both the country and overall Billboard charts. The album is making big waves after the first single The Boys of Fallhit the top spot.
Now Kenny is taking things down a different alley with Somewhere With You.
The song has a dark vibe to it. The lyrics tell the story of a man and his feelings for a woman. Kenny plays the part of a guy gone half-crazy over the loss of a his recent woman. He can’t shake her memory no matter what he does. He can have anyone in the world he wants, but realizes it only masks the pain temporarily as he still sits and thinks about the woman he loves most.
It’s an interesting approach to the subject. Normally fans think of stars as having these amazing lives, but from the sound of this Kenny is able to take a somewhat autobiographical approach to the situation of feeling lost without someone. The lyric about being able to get anyone you want is typically reserved for those with fame and fortune, but most people feel this way when they lose someone. It’s a unique take and a great way for Kenny to find common ground with his fans.
Kenny didn’t write this song, but it feels like he could have. He’s always been good at finding great songs from other writers and this is no exception.
The music to Somewhere With Youis really what most will notice right away. The sound is fast and in your face with a little bit of darkness. It sounds a little bit like Richard Marx’s Hazardwithout the ultra-darkness and heavy tone. Maybe there’s a little bit of Bob Seger’s Turn The Pagein there as well. I could also be completely off base there but that’s what it reminds me of.
It’s an infectious song – Somewhere With You. I like it.
