It’s been two albums and two years since Toby Keith had a big hit record. He’s had a few strong songs the last couple years, but nothing that we’re used to hearing from the country legend. Toby is due to release a new album later this fall. We’ll have to see if he’s got something up his sleeve. I have a feeling that Toby is going to come back with a bang even though he hasn’t been gone very long.
In fact, Toby was on the ACM Awards last week. I thought maybe he would be playing something new like the next single off his current album, but he played his current single. That got me thinking that I would dig into Toby’s latest album and share one of the great album cuts from the record. Here was my choice.
Last Living Cowboy – Toby Keith
This is a great song from Toby. It’s the kind of story song you don’t really here on country radio anymore. In fact, I don’t think anybody would do a song like this anymore except for maybe Garth Brooks and maybe someone like Alan Jackson or George Strait. You’re certainly not going to hear it from Blake Shelton or Luke Bryan.
But Toby is still out there recording great music. He’s been doing it for more than twenty years and hopefully he keeps doing it for another twenty because when Toby Keith is on country radio, country radio is better.
