I’ll admit that I haven’t been the biggest Lauren Alaina fan in the past. I didn’t see her on American Idol mostly because I don’t watch Idol and I didn’t really follower her after her first two singles. Now Lauren has a new single ready for radio and I have to say this one is pretty good. Check it out and see what you think.
Eighteen Inches – Lauren Alaina
Eighteen Inches is the distance from your head to your heart. It’s pretty consistent for most people although I’m sure it varies a bit. But let’s get that out of the way right up front. That’s what the song is about on the surface. Beyond that you’ll find more meaning to the title of this track.
Up this this point Alaina has two singles. One was a very personal song for her and the other was personal as well, but a bit more fun and uptempo. This track gets back to the serious side of life. But the song itself doesn’t seem to go over the top with the emotional side of things. It’s enjoyable. The melody is catchy and it’s something you can find yourself paying attention to. That’s not easy to do in music and I think some artists, especially new artists, struggle with it.
There has probably been no doubt that Lauren Alaina is a country artists from the start, but I feel like this is her most country song release up to this point. It reminds me of songs that would have been put out by Martina McBride or maybe even LeAnn Rimes in the past. Now, Lauren is not the singer those two are but she does a great job on this song. There is emotion in her vocals and sometimes that is more important than hitting every note perfect. Music not perfect. Life is not perfect.
I think Eighteen Inches is a great song.
