While we haven’t seen a new album from traditionalist Lee Ann Womack since 2008’s Call Me Crazy, the singer assures her fans that she’s busy in the studio preparing a few last songs for a new album likely to be released in sometime in 2011.
Her last single There Is A Godalmost cracked the top 30 late last year. It will be interesting to see if it’ll make the lineup on the new album.
Lee Ann recently spoke with The Denver Post about her feelings on traditional country music and her future music plans (Lee Ann Womack’s love of traditional country is a mutual thing):
Country music is still the same as it always has been. What’s called country music is not always country music. I feel like I really love traditional country music, and I love what it is — fiddles and steel guitars. The majority of the time with my music, that’s what I’m trying to do — is keeping that art form alive.
I’ve been in the studio for a few months, and I’m writing and looking for a couple more songs. The label’s been really good to me. Because of the kind of music I make, they can afford to sit back and let me do my thing and make the best record I can.
It’s good to hear that Lee Ann is busy in the recording studio. Her albums always take a little longer than the Nashville norm of 1 to 1.5 years. Lee Ann’s albums are always well worth the wait usually.
Call Me Crazywas great. I loved the two singles Last Calland Solitary Thinkin’. They were pure country. It was a fresh sound on the radio today – if that even makes sense since Lee Ann now leans heavily on traditional sounding country music.
Hopefully Lee Ann can get back some of the acclaim and popularity she last enjoyed with her award-winning There’s More Where That Came From.
Country music is better with the sweet, traditional artist Lee Ann Womack.
