Luke Bryan is coming off ten straight #1 radio hits. If you want to count multiple charts that streak goes back even further.
That has me thinking back to 2007. I was just finishing up in college and I remember we had CMT on one afternoon and this new guy came on with a song called All My Friends Say. I remembering thinking it was an okay song. Fun. Nothing too crazy.
You never know when an artist will find their groove and really breakthrough.
Anyway, Luke is ready to keep things rolling with another new single for a new album due out later this year.
Light It Up – Luke Bryan
This one is definitely progressive. In the production and in the lyrics. It’s got some funky kind of adult contemporary thing going on. It’s a little weird, but it works.
The lyrics are a little stalkerish. But that’s the way life kind of works today. Everybody is attached to their phones and when you text someone you know they’ve seen it and if you don’t hear back within a couple hours you’re wondering what’s going on.
So here we have a guy that’s letting this thing go to his head. He’s getting lost in all the things that could be happening with his girl (or maybe it’s ex-girl).
It’s a very timely song. It kind of reminds me of the importance of putting the phone down once in awhile. Otherwise we kind of get lost in this virtual reality world where our imaginations run wild.
Chart Estimate: #1
CML Points: 88/100
