We haven’t really had a good cowboy song on country music in a while. George Strait is always good for one. Garth Brooks has had a couple splashing of cowboys singles in the last decade. But there really haven’t been that many.
Now we have a new single from Randy Houser and it’s a little throwback to those classic cowboy songs. Well, it sounds like a modern song with a little modern cowboy story. Check it out and see what you think.
Like A Cowboy – Randy Houser
Randy is the perfect guy to sing this song. He almost reminds me of Ronnie Dunn the way he really belts out those lyrics. Ronnie had something special when it came to really singing loud and passionate. He’s one of a kind, but I hear a little of that influence in Randy. I know he’s kind of a country traditionalist so it’s no surprise to hear him come out with a cowboy song.
Obviously this one isn’t about the cowboy life. There are no rodeos. There’s nobody out on the range working the ranch or doing anything like that, but we have a guy that does some things right in life and some other things wrong. That’s kind of the way we all live, but cowboys have this reputation and that’s how the narrator in the song compares himself.
Really cool song here from Randy. There really isn’t anything like it out there. It’s a little different from Randy too. He’s had the uptempo hits lately, but I think this is a good transition. He’s been knocked down a few times, but he keeps getting back up. Maybe that’s how he related to the song.
