Here is a little throwback to the late Merle Haggard. This is a new one from Sam Tio and it’s a little nod to Mama Tried in a way. The song has the same theme, which is a kid or an adult that has kind of recognized the waywardness of his ways growing up. Mom did the best she could, but the boy was out of control.
Give this one a listen and see what you think.
Mama’s Biggest Trouble – Sam Tio
The thing with this song is that it seems that the narrator wants to make some changes in life. Maybe he’s going through some challenges or has made some bad decisions in the past. He sees those now and is looking to make sure that he’s not his mama’s biggest trouble going forward.
But can we ever really change those things about ourselves? I would like to think that we can. We all age at various places in life. Or maybe mature is a better word for it. We all make choices and do things and our parents try to make sure we come out all right. But no matter how much they try there will still be some kids that are a little behind the guiding hand of a parent.
This is a good song. I like that it’s got a traditional country feel. We already mentioned Merle Haggard and that beat and groove seems to draw influence from Johnny Cash. Those are two pretty good influences to have.
I like this one.
