The Mavericks are Back

It was surprising when The Mavericks signed with Big Machine Records. I was thinking that this band had its time in the spotlight, but Scott Borchetta over at Big Machine has been on a roll so he’s earned the benefit of the doubt. Now The Mavericks have a new single out and people are loving it. It’s classic Mavericks and they still sound as unique as ever.

Born to Be Blue – The Mavericks

I’ve listened to this song a couple times now and it gets better with each listen. Make sure you play it back a few times and then leave your comment about what you think.

My take is The Mavericks are really back and back in a big way. The band had some huge hits back in the ’90s. They were always a little different than the mainstream country sound, but it made them interesting and they really had some big time success. They kind of went away for the last few years, but now they’re back and as good as ever.

The song is about the standard stuff – love and love lost. The narrator is finding himself stricken with lovesickness forever. He’s probably going to be blue and lonely forever as evidenced by his latest affair. Sometimes we feel a little sorry for ourselves in that way. A things things go wrong and we’re at the end of our rope.

The Mavericks are back and I think their upcoming album will be a hit as well.

What do you think?

Chart Estimate: #15
